Fact of the Month!
It was a descendant of John Baird, the original owner, who opened Partick’s famous Rosevale Bar, which is ironic, as that is now a well-known haunt of the Rangers fraternity and has been owned by that club’s manager, Walter Smith!
It happened in Bairds...
From www.celticquotes.co.uk
"In 1995/96 I went back to Glasgow and I met up with Bobby Murdoch, Bertie Auld,
and Willie O'Neil at Bairds Bar on a Sunday morning at 9.30. We were arranging to
bring them out to visit South Africa and we just had to finalise a few things. When
we had finished the meeting, I jokingly said to Bobby (I worshipped the ground Bobby
walked on. He was my all time favourite Celtic man) "Hey Bobby now that were finished
wi' the meeting lets just pop up to Celtic Park and take some photos ? It was meant
as a joke, but Bobby just looked it meand said " OK Bill Lets go".
I thought he was
having me on!
Next minute Bobby is taking me through the whole of Celtic Park, dressing room, board room, and even the referees wee change room. And then he took me out on to the CENTRE of the field. My most treasured photo is me and Bobby Murdoch standing together on the centre spot and me wearing my ancient silk Celtic scarf which I got for my 16th birthday, and my arm around a truly great man The stadium was deserted except for 2 wee security blokes, and they were over the moon as well. I still have that photo on my desk in my office. And the greatest thing about the whole event is that I have it ALL on video. He was a great player, and a wonderful Human Being. P.S. I still have the box of Swan Vestas that Bobby had .” – Bill, Joberg, South Africa
